Student Wellbeing

Lakeside Secondary College understands that young people learn best when they feel comfortable and safe and they are engaged with a stimulating and challenging curriculum. Student wellbeing thrives when students experience success in their learning and form positive relationships with their peers and teachers.

The College is organised into Junior and Senior sub-schools so that the learning and wellbeing needs of students can be provided in ways that match their growth and maturity.

Young people enter school with individual needs that are sometimes best supported with additional help from trained staff. The Lakeside Wellbeing Team includes a Student Wellbeing Leader, School Nurse, Youth Worker and Educational Psychologist. This team delivers a range of programs across the school designed to maintain the healthy physical and mental wellbeing of all students.

One of the most important areas of learning for young people at school is learning how to learn with others and how to be responsible for their own actions. This is a normal part of growing into mature adults. Through extensive work with Professor Ramon Lewis, Lakeside secondary College has developed a Developmental Behaviour Management approach to developing these skills and building a positive classroom learning environment. This approach successfully supports students to develop responsibility for their behaviour and to restore relationships when mistakes are made so that they can return to their learning.
