Year 6-7 Transition
Primary - Secondary Transition
Students making the transition from Primary to Secondary school face an exciting phase in their school lives. However, research tells us that if this transition is not successful, students’ learning can be interrupted. This is why at Lakeside Secondary College, the Transition Team works closely with feeder primary schools to ensure that their start to secondary school is a comfortable and smooth transfer into a routine of learning and achievement.
In the first week of December, Year 6 students attend the College for Orientation Day. On this day, students join the Home Group where they will study most of their subjects. They will meet their Home Group teacher who will be the first point of contact for anything that will support each child's transition and progress during Year 7.
Year 7 students at Lakeside often comment on how quickly they settle into their classes at the start of the year. One of the keys to this success is the Year 7 Orientation Camp which is held at the end of Term One each year. This camp provides an excellent opportunity for building friendships and getting to know teachers.
If your child is attending a government primary school, enrolment into Year 7 is arranged through your child’s primary school which provides an application form to parents in April. This form must be returned to the primary school. It is then forwarded onto the secondary school.
Year 6 students and their parents are invited to attend our Parent Information Night. Parents wishing to tour the College at other times, should contact the College on 9460 6655.
